Prior to becoming a licensed Realtor, I began my investment journey in 2018 by purchasing a duplex sight unseen from California to house-hack. This quickly turned into an opportunity for a cash out refi that I put towards an off-market 4-unit in Ocean View. I operated two of the units as STRs with a plan for a third until I received my cease and desist letter from the City of Norfolk. Panicked, I had to pivot my business...with little research, I realized the law states anything less than 30 days was considered "short term." I found a way to target audiences to rent from me for 30 days or more and I was HOOKED! My occupancy was near 95% and the workload was way less taxing. More "passive," some would say, but not losing out on higher income potential. I left my W2 job at the end of 2020 to pursue real estate full time. I now operate 12+ units combining my own and co-hosting for other owners. I've mentored 75+ clients and investors in acquiring or jump-starting their MTR businesses nationwide, I run a FB group for furnished rental investors, I host a national MTR meet up with the STR Sisterhood, and hosts a quarterly Furnished Rental meetup in Hampton Roads. My goal is to make Hampton Roads more furnished rental friendly as a member of the Short Term Rental Alliance (STRA) and STRIVE. I, along with my partners plan to become the "go-to" for furnished rental property purchases, start-up and management in Hampton Roads.
